Richard D. Marther “beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and nephew”

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa.---Richard D. “Rick” Marther, 38, of Shinglehouse, formerly of Erie, passed away in the Olean General Hospital, Olean, N.Y., on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, after suffering an apparent heart attack in his home.
Born on Tuesday, November 2, 1982 in Erie, he was a son of Eugene C. “Gene” and Kathy L. Rumbaugh Marther. On May 6, 2017 in Clara at their family camp, he married Christina M. Reed, who survives.
Rick, who was lovingly known by his family and friends as “Minnow” and “Fish Daddy Rick”, was a graduate of Collegiate Academy in Erie. He graduated in 2006 from Penn State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Wildlife and Fishery Sciences. He was a member of Tau Phi Delta Fraternity.
At the time of his passing, Rick was the hatchery manager for the PA Fish and Boat Commission in Oswayo.
Rick was an Eagle Scout. His Eagle Scout project was to build and set out mourning dove nesting boxes.
He was a Mason, having started in the DeMolay in Erie. Rick was an avid hunter, fisherman, and trapper. He also enjoyed bowling. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion through the Shinglehouse American Legion Post 530. His greatest love was his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Christina M. Reed-Marther; his parents of Erie; his son, Troy M. Price at home; his stepson, Christopher R. (Serina Button) Carpenter, serving with the US Marines; a sister, Jennifer L. “Jen” (Jason) Wilkinson of Erie; several nieces and nephews, including Alyssa Fisher and Madison Fisher; his mother-in-law, Cheryl S. (Bill Green) Reed of Bath, N.Y.; and several aunts and uncles, including Norma Cowley of Erie.
Minnow was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Wilbur C. Marther and Carrie M. Marther; and by his maternal grandparents, Raymond E. Rumbaugh and Rose E. Rumbaugh.
Family and friends may call from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm on Sunday at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, where funeral services will be held at 11am on Monday, July 12, 2021, with Pastor Tim Taylor of Crosstown Alliance Church, Shinglehouse, officiating.
