Robert M. Cummings âloved husband, father and grandfatherâ
SHINGLEHOUSE, PA---Robert M. âBobâ Cummings, 66, of Shinglehouse, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 14, 2016, after suffering an apparent heart attack at home.
Born April 14, 1949 in Blossburg, he was a son of Clark M. and Genevieve L. Ingley Cummings. On June 17, 1972 in St. Theresa Catholic Church in Shinglehouse, he married Linda M. VanEpps, who survives.
Bob was a graduate of Oswayo Valley High School, Class of 1967, in Shinglehouse, a graduate of Williamsport Community College (now Penn Tech) in 1979 with an Associateâs degree in business administration, and a graduate of Clarion University in 1972 with a Bachelorâs degree in business.
Bob was employed for many years as the manager of the former Broad Elm Tire Center (now Valley Tire) in Olean and for many years, he was employed by Dresser-Rand in Olean, NY as a computer operator.
Bob was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Shinglehouse and a member of Sharon Lodge #598 F. & A.M. in Shinglehouse. Bob was a boyâs junior varsity basketball coach at Oswayo Valley High School in Shinglehouse where he also served as a track coach. He enjoyed traveling to visit family. He was an avid sports fan, enjoying the Buffalo Bills, the St. Bonaventure Bonnies, and the New York Mets.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, R. Clark (Tami) Cummings of Shinglehouse; two daughters, Mary Margaret âMaggieâ (Donald) Vincent of Shinglehouse and Abby Marie (Kyle) Gabler of Allegany, NY; five grandchildren, Chris C. Mesler, Sean M. Cummings, Addison P. Gabler, Kohen G. Gabler, and Isaac M. Vincent; a sister, Anne Baldwin of Smethport; a brother-in-law, Miles Joseph VanEpps of the State of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Dean Baldwin.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 18, 2016 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Shinglehouse, with the Rev. Thomas Brown, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse.
Members of Sharon Lodge #598 F. & A.M. will conduct a Masonic service on Sunday evening at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
A prayer service will be held at 8:45 p.m. on Sunday in the funeral home.
