Robert D. Strait, Sr. “an irreplaceable, one of a kind, amazing man”

TURTLEPOINT, Pa.---Robert D. “Farmer” Strait, Sr., 88, a lifelong resident of Turtlepoint, passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, in the Boone Health Hospital, Columbia, Missouri, after being taken ill on his way home from his annual hunting trip in Colorado.
Born on Saturday, February 11, 1933, in Turtlepoint, he was a son of Gaylord and Elizabeth Knapp Strait. On January 25, 1957, in Port Allegany, he married Dorothy A. Johnson Strait, who passed away on March 29, 2014.
Bob was a 1951 graduate of Port Allegany High School. For over 70 years, Bob worked for Annin Township, working until this past summer. He served as Highway supervisor for over 50 years. He started working for the township at the age of 12. He was also a lifelong dairy farmer.
For many years, he was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in Port Allegany, a life member of the NRA, a member of the PA Farm Bureau, a member of the PA Farm Association, a member of the PA Clean Ways, and a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He enjoyed hunting. His true love was his family and his farm.
Surviving are a son, George A. Strait, Sr. of Turtlepoint; a daughter, Judy E. (Don) Dickerson of Shinglehouse; six grandchildren, Amy, Jennie (Eddie), Bill, Nicole, George Jr., and Aaron; six great-grandchildren, Chase, Xavier, Cassandra, Damion, Adelaide, Michaela, and Tavian; a sister-in-law, Barbara Yeager of Smethport; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Bob was predeceased by a daughter, Ann Marie Strait; a son, Robert D. “Bobby” Strait, Jr.; and an infant granddaughter.
Family and friends may call fro 10am to 1pm on Friday, December 17, 2021, at the Birch Grove Mennonite Church, Two Mile Road, Port Allegany, where funeral services will follow at 1pm with Pastor Dale Detweiler, officiating. Burial will follow in the Annin Creek Cemetery, Turtlepoint.

Bob’s family has entrusted his care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
