COUDERSPORT, Pa.---Robert Edgar Wagner M.D. of Coudersport, PA. went home to be with his Heavenly Father on July 1, 2022, with his family and close friend Joe Lagrua by his side. “Bob”, as he preferred, was born October 25, 1940, to James Wagner and Gertrude Phillips Wagner Jones in Miner’s Hospital, Spangler, PA.

Dr. Wagner is survived by his wife, Marilyn Jackson Wagner, and his children, Scott (Kathy) Wagner, Heather Wagner Keating, and Eric Wagner, all of Coudersport. Bob is also survived by 12 much loved grandchildren, Chelsea (Roy Marris) Keating of Mount Morris, NY, Tyler (Cori) Wagner of Coudersport, Jessica Micklich (Jason Pelz) of Lakeview, NY, Trevor (Jenna) Wagner of Farmington, NY, Caitlin Keating (Brennan McTernan) of Pittsburgh, PA, Shannon (Chloe) Keating of Pittsburgh, PA, Meredith (Joel) Hannon of Keene, NH, Tanner McKeone of Coudersport, Michaela Keating (Reese Hayes) of Pittsburgh, PA, Ethan McKeone of Galeton, PA, Troy McKeone (Terri Painter) of Troupsburg, NY and Evan McKeone of Harrisburg, PA. He was also known as Grandpa-Great to 12 beloved great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Erin (Sean) McKeone in 2018. He was also predeceased by two sisters, Janet (Albert) Morse of Smoke Run, PA, and Dr. Catherine Jones of Boston, MA, as well as, two brothers, Patrick Dean (Ruby) Wagner of Fayetteville, NC, and James (Betty) Wagner of Parma Heights, OH.

Bob graduated from Moshannon Valley High School, Houtzdale, PA in 1958, he then continued his education attending Carnegie Institute of Technology, Cleveland, OH earning his certification as a lab technician in 1959. He later graduated from Wilkes College, Wilkes Barre, PA in 1967. He then began his medical education at Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia, PA graduating with honors in 1972. A 3-year residency in Internal Medicine found him back at Robert Packer Hospital/Guthrie Clinic, Sayre, PA where he had first worked as a lab technician in 1961 and 1962. After completing his residency in Robert Packer Hospital in July of 1975, he moved with his family to Coudersport where he joined a group practice in Charles Cole Memorial Hospital as a specialist in Internal Medicine. He was a member of the staff at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital until 1988. After leaving Charles Cole, Bob also worked at many regional medical facilities including St. Mary’s, Ridgway, Mountain Top, Tunkhannock, along with several others including VA Clinics in Pennsylvania and New York.

To continue his work in the medical field, Bob ventured to Arizona, South Dakota, and North Dakota, providing medical services for the Indian Health Services. The Sisseton Wahpeton Indian Tribe named Dr. Wagner as an honorary member of their tribe, for which he was greatly honored.

Bob looked forward to attending his children’s, grandchildren’s and lately his great grandchildren’s sports, theater, musical and other activities. He was a proud supporter of Coudersport Falcon athletics attending as many football games and wrestling matches as he was able. Bob was an enthusiastic fan of local, regional, and state high school wrestling, as well as Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling.

Bob also enjoyed auctioneering, attending Mendenhall School of Auctioneering High Point, NC. He later attended Reading Area Community College Auctioneering Certification Program where he received his license as a professional auctioneer. It was Bob’s great pleasure to be asked to auction the chainsaw carvings at the annual Woodsman’s Carnival in Cherry Springs, PA.

Also surviving Dr. Bob are his host of wonderful, generous, loyal friends (you all know who you are) with whom he shared laughter, debates, intense political opinions, and outlook on life. His family will never be able to repay, except with our heartfelt thanks.

As per Bob’s wishes, there will be no formal services in his memory.

Bob’s family has entrusted his care to Kevin Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
