Rodney D. Nolan “loving husband, father, and grandfather”

Shinglehouse, Pa.--Rodney D. “Rod” Nolan, 59, of Shinglehouse, passed away in his home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, November 26, 2021, after a long illness.
Born on Monday, December 25, 1961, in Coudersport, he was a son of Albert H. “Junior” and Betty L. Ayers Nolan. On November 18, 1989 in Shinglehouse, he married Darialyn “Lyn” Taylor, who survives.
Rod was a graduate of Oswayo Valley High School, Class of 1979, in Shinglehouse, where he enjoyed playing baseball and basketball.
Rod was employed as a raw material handler at Ardagh in Port Allegany until ill health forced his retirement in 2018.
Rod was a member of Bell Run Union Church in Shinglehouse. He was a member of the NRA, a member of Sports Illustrated, and a member of Whitetail Institute. He loved sports, hunting, and going to his camp. He most especially loved spending time with his family. His grandchildren were his world.
From 1999 to 2021, Rod was a Little League coach in Shinglehouse and was also was coach for the Potter McKean AllStars. From 2008 to 2011, he was also the coach for the Babe Ruth team in Shinglehouse and coach for the Potter McKean Babe Ruth team, which made it to the state tournament in 2010 and 2011. For six straight years the Babe Ruth AllStars were district champions, two times making the State Final Four. In 2008, he had an undefeated season. His overall winning percentage was .891. Rod always claimed “any of the kids that played for me will always be my kids”.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Nicole L. McNeal of Alpharetta, Georgia; three sons, Jordan M. Nolan, Carter A. (KaSandra Goodrich) Nolan, and Grant T. Nolan, all of Shinglehouse; two sisters, Vickie (Robert) Benson and Cathleen (Richard) Milliken, both of Shinglehouse; four grandchildren, Lydia McNeal, William McNeal, Jolene Gerhart, and Bohannon Nolan; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and all his ballplayers.
In addition to his parents, Rod was predeceased by a daughter, Charity Lynne Nolan, who passed away on February 26, 2021.
Rod’s family would like to thank his wonderful caregivers, Emilee Ford, KaSandra Goodrich, and Lee Colton.
Family and friends may call from 10am to 12 noon on Monday, November 29, 2021, at the Bell Run Union Church, 904 Taylor Brook Road, Shinglehouse, where funeral services will follow at 12 noon in the church with Pastor Chad E. Shaffer, officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bell Run Union Church, 904 Taylor Brook Road, Shinglehouse, PA 16748.
Rod’s family has entrusted his care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
