Roger R. Carpenter
MILLPORT, PA---Roger R. Carpenter, 82, of Millport, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2014 in Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, PA, after a short illness.
Born March 11, 1932 at home in Dallas City, PA, he was a son of Floyd B. and Bernice Finch Carpenter. On September 10, 1960 in Bradford, he married Barbara A. Shepard, who survives.
He was a graduate of Bradford High School, Class of 1951. Mr. Carpenter was a U.S. Army veteran having served from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War.
Roger worked in local oil fields for the former Flanigan Brothers in Bradford and was also employed at West Brothers in Millport where he retired in the early 1990âs.
He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Bradford. He was a member of Sharon Lodge #598 F. & A.M. in Shinglehouse where he was very active with the fish fry fundraisers. He was a former member of the Coudersport Consistory, a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Rew, and a member of the Eldred American Legion Post 887.
Roger, along with his wife, enjoyed camping, belonging to the P.A.L.S. Camping Club and Stargazers Camping Club. He enjoyed spending two months in Florida during the winter.
Surviving besides his wife are two grandchildren, Jennifer and James; seven great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law; several nieces and nephews; and several cousins, including Lois Turpel.
In addition to his parents, Roger was predeceased by a daughter, Debra Karen Jarrell; and four brothers.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, PA where funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Christine A. Groeger, associate pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Emporium, officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse.
Members of Sharon Lodge #598 F. & A.M. will conduct memorial services on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
Members of the Potter County Honor Guard and the Eldred American Legion Post 887 will accord military honors on Thursday.
