Ross L. Jones “beloved husband, father, and grandfather”
SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa.---Ross L. Jones, of Wildcat Road, Shinglehouse, passed away in his home surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, July 4, 2021, after a year long battle with cancer.
Born on Tuesday, February 13, 1945 in Oswayo, he was a son of John P. Sr. and Delma Bettinger Jones. On June 18, 1966, in Oswayo, he married Ellen L. Shelley, who survives.
Ross was a 1963 graduate of Oswayo Valley High School in Shinglehouse. He was a US Army veteran having served during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1969 with the Blackhorse Unit, Howitzer Battery 3/11 ACR. Ross received a Commendation Medal for Meritorious service.
He was a logger for many years, retiring in 2014. His brother, Warren, got him started in the business. Ross was the owner of the former Linda Lanes (which he renamed OV Lanes) in Shinglehouse from 1983 until selling in 2020. He also owned the former A&M Bowling Center (which he renamed Bowl-M-OVer Lanes) in Wellsville, N.Y., from 2012 until his death. Ross was an avid bowler.
Surviving besides his wife are his daughter, Michelle (David) Ford of Shinglehouse; two grandsons, Aaron Thompson of Wellsville, N.Y. and Shawn Radigan of Shinglehouse; a great-granddaughter, Taelynn Dickerson of Shinglehouse; three sisters, Edith Keech and JoAnn (Tom) Wetzel, both of Shinglehouse, and Violet (Fred) Mohr of Carter Camp; three brothers, Hank (Marsha) Jones of Wellsboro, John “Foggy” (Mary “Mugs”) Jones of Oswayo, and Darold Jones of Portville, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews
In addition to his parents, Ross was predeceased by two brothers, Warren and Earl; and three sisters, Ruby Johnson, Eileen Sugden, and Beatrice Mosso.
As per Ross’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or memorial service. Instead the family will hold a bowling tournament in his memory this fall on a date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Ross’s family has entrusted his care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
