Roy C. Amidon “beloved husband, father and grandfather”
OSWAYO, PA---Roy C. Amidon, 81, of Oswayo, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, in UPMC Cole, Coudersport, after a brief illness.
Born on Monday, May 31, 1943 in Shinglehouse, he was a son of Leon and Kathryn Amidon. On February 15, 1969 in Olean, NY, he married Sandra J. “Sandie” Holmberg, who survives.
Roy attended school in both Oswayo and Shinglehouse. He was employed for 30 years as a truck driver for PennDOT in Coneville. In his younger years, he was a stone cutter in a stone quarry. After retirement, he worked with his son, Richard, taking care of many cemeteries throughout the area. In his teenage years, he was a pin setter at the bowling alley in Shinglehouse where he earned ten cents a game setting the pins. In his early 20’s he worked in Maine as an x-ray assistant on the submarine, the USS Thresher.
He was a member of the Shinglehouse Methodist Church and faithfully attended the Millport Community Church. He loved woodworking and hunting, until his eyesight became poor. One of his favorite things to do was to take his grandson, Joshie, for rides up the hollow.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sandie; four sons, Stacey (Susan) Amidon of Oswayo, Terry (Maria) Amidon of Niagara Falls, NY, Michael Amidon of Oswayo, and Richard (Cheri) Amidon of Oswayo; eight grandchildren, Jessica (Casey) Tomac, Jason (Jessica) Amidon, Lauren (Jordan) Main, Brad (April) Edwards, Joshua Amidon, Colleen Halter, Alyssa Amidon, and Roquel Halter; ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth “Bucky” (Susan) Amidon of Oswayo and Paul (Maria) Amidon of Port Allegany; and many nieces and nephews.
Roy was predeceased by his parents.
In keeping with Roy’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Roy’s name may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Roy’s family entrusted his care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
