Ruby M. Austin “beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother”
SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa.---Ruby M. Austin, 100, of Shinglehouse, passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2021, in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport.
Born on Monday, June 7, 1920, in Brookville, she was a daughter of Guy A. and Twila E. Mogle Confer. On April 17, 1935, in Shinglehouse, she married H. Nelson Austin, who passed away on February 24, 2010.
Ruby attended Shinglehouse High School. She retired as head cashier from the former Shinglehouse Market Basket in 1982. She had previously been employed at the former Westons Shopper City in Westons Mills, Alcas Cutlery in Olean, N.Y., and at the former Rhodes Bakery, also in Olean.
Ruby attended Bell Run Union Church. She was a member of the Bell Run Community Club, having held every office, and was a member of the F.A.& I.U. Insurance Group (the Myrtle Alliance). She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and reading. Her greatest love was her family.
Surviving are three sons, Daniel N. Austin and Lloyd E. (Phyllis) Austin, both of Shinglehouse, and Herbert L. (Elsie) Austin of Cory; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Sara Jane Austin of Shinglehouse and Beverly Austin Van Der Griff of Millport; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruby was predeceased by two sons, N. Robert Austin and Wayne P. Austin; three granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, John Confer and Guy A. Confer; and a sister, Louise Kerns.
Family and friends may call from 12:30pm to 2:30pm on Sunday, March 28, 2021, at the Bell Run Union Church, 904 Taylor Brook Road, Shinglehouse, where funeral services will follow at 2:30pm with Pastor Chad E. Shaffer, officiating. Burial will be in Bell Run Cemetery.

Ruby entrusted her care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
