Stanley R. Goodwin “beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle”
COUDERSPORT, Pa.---Stanley R. Goodwin, 80, a longtime resident of Coudersport, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 27, 2022.
Born on Friday, December 12, 1941 in Buffalo, N.Y., he was a son of Lewis D. and Mickey L. Coy Goodwin. On February 6, 1965 in Coudersport, he married Janice W. Welsh, who survives.
He attended Coudersport High School. A hard worker, Stan had numerous jobs throughout the years. Lastly, he was a self-employed contractor, owning and operating Goodwin and Sons in Coudersport for many years.
A generous man, he gave freely his time, his dirt and gravel from his gravel pit to community projects and donated to many charities. He gave a helping hand to many in need. He was always generous to his family.
Stan was a life member of the NRA and was an expert marksman. He loved nature, the mountains, and living his life in the beauty of Potter County. Stan was passionate about hunting, fishing, and feeding the deer in the winter. He was an avid snowmobiler, having won many races.
Stan went to Boyd’s Corner Store constantly, buying candy bars and giving them to children. He said when he was a boy he would wish he had a candy bar. Danny would say “Stan, you’re going to go broke”. Stan would just laugh.
He had a special talent for the laying of the land. Professors at the University of Indiana wanted him to teach a class on this.
Many friends of Stan’s and sons of his friends have called to tell us stories of the times he shared with them and told us Stan was a legend. To us, his family, he was a very loving, thoughtful and giving man. We feel privileged he was our husband, our Dad, our brother, and our uncle. We already miss the joy, the laughter and the love he gave us every day.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife; two sons, David R. (Georgia) Goodwin and Gary E. Goodwin, both of Coudersport; a granddaughter, Elle Goodwin; two brothers, Harold (Alice) Goodwin of Port Matilda and Larry (Ellen) Goodwin of Coudersport; two sisters, Emily Shaffer of Creekside and Nancy (Joe) Giannone of Coudersport; and many nieces and nephews.
Stan was predeceased by his parents.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life for Stan from noon to 3pm on Sunday, February 13, 2022, at the Coudersport American Legion.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Potter County Snowmobile Club, 949 North Hollow Road, Coudersport, PA 16915 or to the Make A Wish Foundation, 707 Grant Street, #3700, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
