Suzanne M. Bernard âBeloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Daughter, Sisterâ
CERES, NY---Suzanne M. âSueâ Bernard, 62, of Ceres, NY, passed away in her home with her loving husband by her side on Sunday, December 14, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born January 11, 1952 in Olean, NY, she was the daughter of Robert G. and Margaret M. Sutherland Visseau. On July 6, 1985 in Bolivar, she married Loren D. Bernard.
Sue was a graduate of Bolivar Central School, class of 1971. She attended dental hygienist school in Rochester, NY and was employed by Dr. Simons in Cuba. She held various business related positions such as accounts receivable specialist. She had also been employed by Cutco as an online sale representative where she found a special connection to her co-workers who she considered her dear friends. After retiring Sue and Loren were employed as licensed real estate agents by Real Estate Pros and More in Portville.
Since childhood Sue always had a strong passion for horses. She was an active member of the NYS Paint Horse Association and the American Quarter Horse Association. Sue was involved with her childrenâs youth sports and continued to support the athletic programs including the Bolivar Sports Boosters and the Alumni Association in various capacities.
She is survived by her husband Loren , her mother Margaret of Little Genesee; two sons, Eric M. (Danielle) Hurd of Corning and Joshua D. (Melissa) Hurd of Carol Stream, Illinois; two stepchildren, Troy D. (Johanna) Bernard of Ingleside, Illinois and Kim J. (Jerome Harris) Sutton of Tampa, Florida; four grandchildren, Katelyn E. Sutton, Blake A. Harris, Ethan W. Hurd, and Gabriella N. Hurd; two brothers, Gordon W. (Kathy) Visseau of Little Genesee and Michael R. (Kathy) Visseau of Shinglehouse, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
Sue was preceded in death by her father Robert.
In keeping with Sueâs wishes, private funeral services will be held in the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA with the Rev. Thomas Brown, pastor of St. Theresa Catholic Church, Shinglehouse officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse, PA.
Friends are invited to celebrate Sueâs life on Saturday, December 20, 2014 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at the family home on Bells Brook Road, Ceres, NY.
Flowers are gratefully declined. The family suggests memorials be made to a charity of the donorâs choice in Sueâs name.
