Sylvan L. Hahn “avid hunter at Camp Mickey Mouse in Shinglehouse”
PITTSBURGH, Pa.---Sylvan L. “Sonny” Hahn, 86, of Pittsburgh and his family’s hunting camp in Shinglehouse, “Camp Mickey Mouse”, passed away peacefully on Saturday September 4, 2021.
He was born on Wednesday, May 22, 1935 in Pittsburgh, a son of Sylvan and Sophia Bell Hahn.
He was the beloved husband of the late Debra (Gilliam) Hahn. Father of Shawna (Fiancé Robert) Douglas; step-father of Rodney Paulat (Jenna) and Nicole McClone. Grandfather of Logan and Riley Douglas; step-grandfather of Maia McClone, Kate and Max Paulat. Survived by sister Mary Alyce Langer (William); brother of the late Walter Hahn, Eleanor Burgunder, Marian Wilson, Ruth Marie (Dolly) Gatti, LaVerne Kurlich, Sarah Jane Burgunder, Geraldine Schmitt and Sophia Schessler. Sonny is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews (“Yap” and “Squirrel”), just to name a couple.
He was loved and admired by many. Known for his amazing “green thumb”, flower growing, planting and landscaping skills, Sonny relentlessly worked many long, laboring days until the age of 80. He was truly dedicated to his love of flowers and many would say there is no one that will could ever replicate his talent.
Sonny served as a Marine and was very proud. Sonny, (also known as “Baboo ” to his grandsons) adored and cherished his time with them. Logan and Riley were the heart and soul of his life and they often brought tears of happiness to his eyes.
Sonny was also an avid hunter, Notre Dame’s #1 fan, golden retriever lover and a lifetime member of the Allegheny Country Rifle Club.
Family and friends are invited to attend graveside burial services at 1pm on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, in the Ford Hill Cemetery, Coudersport, with the Rev. James Campbell, pastor of St. Eulalia Catholic Church, Coudersport, officiating.
Members of the Potter County Honor Guard will accord full military honors on Tuesday.
Sonny’s family has entrusted his care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
