Thomas C. Safford âbeloved husband, father and grandfatherâ
CERES, PA---Thomas C. âTomâ Safford, 74, of Ceres, PA, passed away unexpectedly with his loving family by his side on Thursday, February 25, 2016 in the Olean General Hospital, Olean, NY, after being stricken at home.
Born on December 14, 1941 in Olean, NY, he was a son of Lawrence and Bernice VanGorder Safford. On September 2, 1962 in the Ceres United Methodist Church, he married Margaret E. King, who survives.
Tom was a graduate of Port Allegany High School in Port Allegany. He was employed by the former Pierce Glass Company in Port Allegany, retiring after 43 years of service. He also served as Ceres Township Supervisor for many years.
Tom was a member of the Ceres United Methodist Church. He was an avid fisherman and Penn State supporter. His greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving besides his wife are three daughters, Patricia (Richard) Shreve of Richburg, NY, Lea (Gary) Dorrett of Wirt, NY, and Charity Safford of Bradford; two sons, Timothy (Diane) Safford of Bolivar, NY and Zack Slater of Greensburg; two grandsons, Ryan Keiser of Olean, NY and Brandon Keiser of Eldred; four granddaughters, Sarah Safford and Susan Safford, both of Ceres, and Nicole (Jamie) Weber of Bolivar, NY and Shannon Weber of Charlotte, NC; four great-grandsons; a brother, Lawrence (Phyllis) Safford of Hebron, KY; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins.
In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased by a grandson, Aaron Safford.
Friends may call from 12 noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, PA, where funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Becky L. Edwards, pastor of the Ceres United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Ceres.
