OLEAN---Viola C. “Vi” Shaw, 96, of Olean and a former longtime resident of Bolivar, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 13, 2018, in Wellsville Manor, Wellsville, after a short illness.

Born on February 20, 1922 in Uniontown, Pa., she was a daughter of Alfred and Rita Johnston Chain.  On April 29, 1945, in the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Shinglehouse, Pa., she married the love of her life, John H. Shaw, who passed away on March 5, 2017.

Vi grew up in Shinglehouse and Franklinville, where her parents started Christian and Missionary Alliance Churches, including the church she was married in and was a member of for many years.  Vi enjoyed playing the piano at church and at home for her family.  She enjoyed being a homemaker and enjoyed babysitting many of the neighborhood children.  Her greatest love was spending time with her children and grandchildren, for whom she prayed for daily.

Surviving are three children, John (Cheryl) Shaw of Munford, Tennessee, Nancy (Ron) Moreci of Chandler, Arizona, and Richard “Rick” (Diana) Shaw of Olean; eight grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; a sister, Alice Walker of Wellsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Shaw was predeceased by her parents and husband.

Friends may call from 11am to 1pm on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, where funeral services will follow at 1pm with Pastor Larry Allen of the Richburg First Day Baptist Church, officiating.  Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Bolivar.
