Viola I. Smith “beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother”
COUDERSPORT, Pa.---Viola I. Smith, 88, of Coudersport, formerly of Allentown, Pa., passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, in UPMC Cole Place, Coudersport.
Born on Friday, February 2, 1934 in Summit Hill, she was a daughter of Orville and Violet Bartholomew Heffelfinger.
Viola had worked in an ammunition plant in Summit Hill, was later employed as a prison guard, and then was employed at Bloom’s Detective Agency in Bethlehem. She was lastly employed for PennDot at the license center in Allentown.
Viola enjoyed crocheting and watching Family Feud. She loved Elvis Presley, but her greatest love was her family.
Surviving are four children, Gail (David) Callahan, Jeffrey (Sharon) Smith, Cynthia Smith, and Rebecca Torruella; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Faye (Richard) Gross; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Viola was predeceased by two sons, Gary Smith and Kevin Smith; and seven brothers and sisters.
In keeping with Viola’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. Private graveside burial services will be held in the Palmerton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to UPMC Cole Place Patient Activity Fund, 1001 East Second Street, Coudersport, PA 16915.
Viola entrusted her care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
