William L. Dawson “family man and retired State Trooper”
COUDERSPORT, Pa.---William L. “Bill” Dawson, 73, of Coudersport, passed away with his loving family by his side on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, in his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on Thursday, November 27, 1947 in Geisinger Hospital in Danville, he was a son of Doyle and Lucretia Harter Dawson. On June 24, 1967 in Hobbie, he married Carol A. Sharrow, who survives.
Bill was a US Army veteran having served during the Vietnam Era from February of 1967 to February of 1971, attaining the rank of Specialist 5th class. He entered the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in Hershey on January 27, 1972. After 30 years of service at the Coudersport Barracks he retired on February 1, 2002.
Bill was a member of the Coudersport Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, where he was an elder and a member of the Church governing board. He served on the Coudersport Borough Police Civil Service Commission and on the Potter County DUI and Drug Court Treatment Team. Bill enjoyed family times with his children, grandchildren, and his great-grandson. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his best friend, his wife Carol.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years; three children, Pamela S. (Luke) Crossley of Punxsutawney, Michelle R. Dawson of Coudersport, and Kevin D. (Tina) Dawson of Titusville; six grandchildren, Emma Hisrich, Daniel Hisrich, Joshua Courtney, Breana Courtney, Janae Dawson, and Bryce Dawson; and a great-grandson, Archer Hisrich.
Bill was predeceased by his parents.
Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services at 1pm on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at the Coudersport Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 7 Alliance Avenue, Coudersport, with the Rev. Josh Dean, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Sweden Hill Cemetery, Coudersport.
Honors will be accorded by the Pennsylvania State Police.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Coudersport Alliance Church, 7 Alliance Avenue, Coudersport, PA 16915.
Bill entrusted his care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
