William L. "Bill" Hemphill

William L. Hemphill            â€œloving husband, father, grandfather & great-grandfather

SHINGLEHOUSE, PA---William L. “Bill” Hemphill, 78, of Shinglehouse, went to be with his Lord and Savior after a long illness on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 in Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport with his loving family at his side.
     Born April 5, 1934 in Olean, NY, he was a son of LeRoy J. and Maude Laura Bunker Hemphill.  On August 10, 1957 at the Church of God in Eldred, he married Sharon R. Goodman, who survives.
     He was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School, class of 1951.
     Mr. Hemphill was employed for over 42 years at Dresser Rand in Olean, NY, retiring in 1999.  He was also a Sharon Township supervisor for 26 years.
     He was a 50 year member of Sharon Lodge #598 F & AM in Shinglehouse, a life member of the Coudersport Consistory, and a life member of the NRA.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reloading ammunition, and reading.
     Surviving besides his wife are 2 sons, John W. (Tanya) Hemphill of Shinglehouse and Thomas J. (Dani) Hemphill of West Monroe, NY; 2 daughters, Elaine M. (Dan) Austin of Shinglehouse and Ann L. (Donald)
Graeff of Lititz; 14 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a sister, Bonita (Donald) Chappell of Shinglehouse; and numerous nieces and nephews.
     In addition to his parents, Mr. Hemphill was predeceased by a son, Edward Ray Hemphill; and a daughter, Patti Lynn Hemphill.
     Friends may call at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse on Saturday, December 22, 2012 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at which time funeral services will follow with the Rev. Russell J. Horning, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Shinglehouse, officiating.
     Members of Sharon Lodge #598 F & AM will conduct memorial services at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shinglehouse Volunteer Ambulance Association, PO Box 98, Shinglehouse, PA 16748 or to the Shinglehouse Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 475, Shinglehouse, PA 16748.
